Air France's La Premiere is regularly named among the best first class products in the world, and the airline is midway through replacing it with something even better. The catch: this cabin only exists on a slice of the fleet, flying a short list of routes from Paris Charles de Gaulle. Here's how to work out whether your flight has it.

First, the basics. La Premiere only appears on a subfleet of Boeing 777-300ERs — roughly two dozen jets, about half of Air France's 777-300ER fleet. You won't find it on the A330s, A350s or 787s. These four-cabin 777s fly select frequencies from Paris to Abidjan, Atlanta, Dubai (currently suspended), Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York JFK, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Tel Aviv (also suspended), Tokyo Haneda and Washington. Boston joins the list on 19 November 2026, and Newark follows on 1 February 2027.

The new suite is rolling out gradually. Eighteen aircraft have been retrofitted so far, with the full project originally targeted for the end of 2026 — though with nine planes still to go, a spring 2027 finish looks more realistic. Today, the new cabins fly on seven routes: Paris-Abidjan (AF702/703), Paris-Los Angeles (AF20/21, 22/23 and 24/25), Paris-Miami (AF90/91), Paris-New York (usually AF4/3 and AF6/5), Paris-San Francisco (AF84/83), Paris-Singapore (AF256/257) and Paris-Tokyo Haneda (AF274/275).

There's an easy way to check before booking. Air France's website flags flights with the message "Aircraft equipped with the new La Premiere suite," and the seat map gives it away too: the new configuration shows a seat plus chaise longue in rows 1A, 1D, 1H and 1L, while the older version uses 1A, 1E, 1F and 1L. Aircraft assignments can change, so it's worth re-checking close to departure.

Even if a first class fare is out of reach, these retrofitted jets matter for everyone on board. Alongside the new suites, Air France is overhauling the whole interior of these planes, adding its excellent new business class with doors — bookable with Air France-KLM Flying Blue miles — and fitting free Starlink Wi-Fi across all cabins. Several of the newly configured aircraft previously flew without first class at all, which is why La Premiere is appearing on more destinations than before.

For travellers, the practical takeaway is simple: if you're redeeming miles or splashing out on Air France's top cabins, target the seven routes above, and use the seat map trick to confirm you're getting the new product rather than the old one. New York and Los Angeles offer the most frequencies with the new suites, making them the easiest bets. And past La Premiere cities like Hong Kong, Johannesburg and Mexico City could see the cabin return as more jets are converted.
