If you're eyeing the Maldives for Christmas or New Year, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts has just laid out its festive plans across three islands — and they've each gone their own way. From 21 December 2026 to 7 January 2027, Atmosphere Kanifushi, VARU by Atmosphere and RAAYA by Atmosphere will each run their own themed programme, so the resort you pick shapes the holiday you get.

Kanifushi is going big on spectacle with its Kanifushi Odyssey. The calendar includes a pirates-under-the-stars night, Santa arriving by the sea on Christmas Eve, a neon-themed Christmas Day called Neon Tides, and themed dinners ranging from an Italian trattoria to a World Kitchen spread. Everything builds to The Crown of Midnight, the resort's New Year's Eve gala.

RAAYA, meanwhile, has gone full Roald Dahl. Its Wonka Winter Wonderland (23 December to 7 January) leans into all things chocolate: a glow-in-the-dark party, chocolate carving on Christmas morning, and a traditional Maldivian dinner with live Bodu Beru drumming. New Year's Eve turns masquerade, with dressed-up dining and a countdown to match.

VARU takes the most local route with Colour of Lights – A Luminous Island Journey, running 22 December to 7 January. Expect Maldivian high tea with live sweets stations, open-air cinema under the stars, carols with the resort team, and a Christmas Eve gala built around island traditions.

One practical detail worth flagging: most activities across all three resorts are included in the Holiday Plan, so you're not paying per event on top of your stay. The broader calendars also cover wellness sessions, marine excursions, creative workshops and family activities, so the festivals are the headline act rather than the whole show.

Why it matters: the Maldives in December means peak season prices and islands that book up early, so knowing which resort matches your vibe — family chocolate-fest, glitzy gala nights, or quieter culturally-flavoured celebrations — helps you lock in the right one before the best villas are gone. Families with kids might lean RAAYA or Kanifushi; couples after a calmer, more Maldivian festive mood may prefer VARU.
