Halloween in Calgary just got a plan. The Fright Crawl is back for the spooky season, spreading four separate bar crawls across the downtown core from Thursday, Oct. 29 to Saturday, Oct. 31, with costume contests, live DJs and drink specials stitched through every route.

The format is simple: one wristband gets you into every participating venue on your chosen crawl, and an on-site host guides the group between stops. There's also a live crawl map showing each venue's location, which is handy once the night picks up steam. Each night runs from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., and each crawl has its own starting point and route, so repeat visitors can pick a different line-up every time.

Thursday's crawl kicks off at Greta Bar YYC and winds through Bottlescrew Bill's Pub, Velvet Room and Rumur before GULBAR hosts the closing party. Friday is the biggest route, starting at Four Dogs Brewing Company and hitting Commonwealth Bar and Stage, Velvet Room, Rumur and Bottlescrew Bill's before finishing at Fire N Ice Bar and Sheesha Lounge. Saturday offers a two-for-one: a daytime crawl starting at Social Beer Haus with stops including Bottlescrew Bill's, Greta Bar YYC and Velvet Room, plus a separate Halloween-night version running from Commonwealth Bar and Stage through Velvet Room, Eve Lounge, Fire N Ice Bar and Sheesha Lounge.

Pricing scales with demand. Thursday costs $29.30, the Saturday afternoon crawl is $34.87, Friday night runs $57.21, and the Halloween-night crawl tops out at $79.56. Tickets are online-only in advance, and it's a strictly 19-and-over affair — bring government-issued ID.

What's genuinely fun is the gamified layer: your ticket includes a digital Halloween passport that collects virtual stamps at each bar, and finishing the passport earns you a personalised "Crawl Wrapped" recap card after the event. Think Spotify Wrapped, but with more dubious decisions.

For travellers, it's a rare excuse to plan a late-October trip to Alberta. Calgary in autumn is crisp and quiet on the tourism front, and an event like this puts a dozen-plus downtown bars on one ticket — no queuing, no cover-charge roulette, no arguing about where to go next. Pair it with a day trip to Banff, about 90 minutes west, and you've got a Halloween weekend that balances mountains and mayhem. If you go, book accommodation near downtown: the crawl routes are clustered within walking distance, and October nights in Alberta are not the time to be hunting for a ride at 2 a.m.
