Calgary gets a mild send-off to autumn this weekend, with Saturday forecast to hit 19°C — unusually warm for mid-October — and a packed calendar of Halloween-adjacent events to match. If you're in the city between Oct. 16 and 18, here's what's on.

Art lovers on a budget should head downtown to the Under $200 Art Show, where 70 well-selling local artists offer paintings, ceramics and photography, all capped at $200 a piece. Entry is $14.75 and it runs all three days from 7 p.m.

Halloween fans are spoiled. Pumpkins After Dark at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park is in its final weekends, with a trail of thousands of hand-carved, glowing pumpkins — tickets start around $17 for adults and under $12 for youth. For something scarier, Screamfest at GMC Stadium near Stampede Park runs Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight, with six haunted houses, carnival games and monster truck rides from $35.40. If you want to go full ghost-hunter, Ghost Hunt Alberta is running a paranormal investigation of the Calgary Shriner's Centre on Friday evening at roughly $105 a head, while the Creepy Tales and Cocktails walk through Inglewood pairs 90 minutes of haunted history with hors d'oeuvres and a drink for $59.12, departing from The Confluence Historic Site.

There's plenty beyond the spooky stuff. TELUS Spark hosts Indigenous Science Night on Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. — telescope viewings, planetarium sessions, storytelling with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, beadwork and a Moonlight Market of Indigenous artists, all for $5 kids and $10 adults. Saturday brings the free Calgary Beaver Fest at Vista Point in North Glenmore Park, with wildlife talks and beaver-themed activities from noon to 6 p.m. Adults can book an 18+ Harvest Pumpkin Fest evening at Butterfield Acres farm ($25) for tractor rides, animal cuddles and s'mores by the fire. On the ice, the Calgary Hitmen face the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Scotiabank Saddledome Friday at 7 p.m., with tickets from about $34. And if you want dinner with your entertainment, Jubilations Dinner Theatre wraps up its run of Rock Around the Clock with Elvis and Friends — a Buddy Holly-and-Presley revue with a served meal — Friday and Saturday from $53.95.

It's a good snapshot of why Calgary works as an autumn city break: a compact downtown, short drives to everything (Butterfield Acres is the outlier in the city's northwest), and a mix of free and ticketed events that suit couples, families and solo travellers alike. The warm Saturday is the window to be outdoors — after this weekend, the cold settles back in.
