French luxury skincare house Sisley Paris has made its first-ever appearance on a cruise ship, and it has picked a fitting stage: Explora III, the newest ship in MSC's upscale Explora Journeys fleet.
The partnership centres on Ocean Wellness – The Spa, where a dedicated Sisley treatment suite now hosts signature facials performed by therapists trained in the brand's plant-based formulas and massage techniques. Beyond treatments, the spa boutique stocks a wide retail line covering Sisley skincare, its Hair Rituel haircare range, fragrances and make-up — so you can take the routine home with you.
Two facials anchor the menu. The Sisley Signature Facial, in 60- or 90-minute versions, is billed as a multi-sensory massage that works each facial muscle individually for an immediate lift. The 90-minute Sisley Black Rose Facial leans on the brand's famous rose-scented formula to smooth features and boost radiance. Both tie into Explora's wider "Ocean State of Mind" wellness ethos, which the line frames as giving guests time and space to switch off and reconnect.
Explora Journeys president Anna Nash highlighted the family-run angle in announcing the deal: both brands are family-owned, which she said creates a natural fit around craftsmanship, longevity and attention to detail. Sisley isn't staying exclusive to one ship for long — the partnership rolls out to sister ships Explora I and Explora II in 2027.
For anyone considering the ship itself, Explora III carries just 922 guests, putting it firmly in the small, high-end end of the cruise market. It is currently on its inaugural season, which officially kicked off on August 3, with itineraries spanning Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland and North America — scenery-heavy, cooler-water sailing rather than the usual sun-deck circuit.
Why should a traveller care? Spa partnerships are becoming a genuine differentiator at the luxury end of cruising, and this is one of the biggest names in European skincare making its sea debut. If a serious facial is part of your holiday ritual, booking a spa-inclusive sailing on Explora III this season means trying something that simply hasn't existed at sea before. It also signals where Explora Journeys is heading as it builds out its wellness credentials against rivals like Explora's upscale competitors — more quality partnerships, fewer generic onboard spa menus.
Practically speaking: treatments will presumably come at an extra cost as with most cruise spas, so factor that into your budget if the Sisley facials are a draw. And with the ship's summer season focused on the North Atlantic, pack layers — the spa will feel well earned after a day exploring Icelandic waterfalls or Greenland's fjords.
