Abu Dhabi's events calendar has kicked into gear for mid-October, and the week of October 12 to 15 packs in everything from a sunrise lap of a Formula 1 circuit to a cinema screening of Spirited Away with live music. Here's what's worth knowing if you're in the UAE capital.

Beach weather is back, and Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island is leaning into it with an all-inclusive daycation running daily from 9am to 6pm. For Dhs695 per adult (Dhs347.50 for kids aged two to six), you get breakfast and lunch at Turquoise, drinks across the lobby, pool and beach bars, gym access, sports activities, a kids club and entry to the Anjana Spa facilities — essentially a full resort day without the overnight stay.

Cyclists get a rare treat on October 13 and 15: free rides around the full Yas Marina Circuit grand prix track from 6am to 8am. It's the same tarmac that hosts the season-ending Formula 1 race, and doing it at sunrise with your bike is about as Abu Dhabi as it gets. Just note you'll need to register in advance.

Culture fixers have a couple of options too. Anime Film Week lands at the Cultural Foundation on Wednesday October 14, opening with Spirited Away at 7pm for just Dhs35, with a live musical performance anchoring the programme. And if you'd rather eat your way through the week, Cooper's GastroBar at Park Rotana is running a German menu until October 15 — pork knuckle, beef goulash, rösti and Black Forest cake, with German lagers like Erdinger and Hofbräu at Dhs38 all day.

Families in town for half term can offload energetic kids at the SpeedUp Sports Academy camp at LFITM on Saadiyat Island, running October 12 to 16 at Dhs800 for the week, with a 10% sibling discount.

For a date night, The Overlook — the rooftop lounge at The WB Abu Dhabi — hosts a wine and charcuterie soirée every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm at Dhs169 per person, with free-flowing drinks and grazing boards against the skyline. On the business end, Isabel Mayfair at The Galleria does a weekday power lunch, noon to 3pm: three courses for Dhs149 featuring beef ragu, baked aubergine and roasted hammour, plus wine for an extra Dhs45.

Why it matters: this is a good snapshot of Abu Dhabi's shoulder-season appeal — October brings the return of outdoor weather without peak-season prices, and several of the week's best draws (the track cycling, the anime screening) cost next to nothing. If you're visiting during half term or in town on business, these are the kind of bookable extras that turn a stopover into a proper stay.
