Airport lounges in the Caribbean tend to be an afterthought — small rooms, mediocre snacks, a paywall on the beer. The exception, according to a fresh review from Caribbean Journal, is Club Mobay at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which the publication has again named the best lounge in the region, a title it has held repeatedly over the years. It also just won the equivalent World Travel Awards honour for the 14th consecutive year.
What sets it apart starts before you even reach the seating area. Club Mobay includes fast-track security, a rarity among Caribbean lounges, so the perks kick in right after check-in. Once inside — past newly installed QR code kiosks — the offering is genuinely comprehensive rather than a token buffet.
The food gets specific praise: the reviewer highlighted a sweet-and-sour snapper during a recent visit. Drinks are included in full, which matters because many regional lounges charge extra for alcohol. The spirits list features Worthy Park, arguably Jamaica's top rum at the moment, and there's a cocktail menu running from a Bob Marley to a Jamaican Delight. A dedicated spa called Mango rounds out the package, and there's a runway view for plane-spotters.
Two details make it especially useful for holidaymakers. First, there are two separate spaces under the Club Mobay umbrella — one family-friendly, one adults-only — so you can pick your atmosphere before a long-haul flight home. Second, access is surprisingly easy to arrange. Several Jamaican hotels throw in Club Mobay entry depending on your room category, and it's also part of Priority Pass, which comes bundled with cards like the American Express Platinum. Walk-in paid entry is an option too. There's a sister outpost at Kingston's airport, though the review's only real complaint is that the concept hasn't spread further across the region.
For travellers, the takeaway is simple: if your Jamaica trip ends in Montego Bay, budget a couple of hours for Club Mobay before departure, or book the arrival service for a smooth landing. It turns Sangster — one of the Caribbean's busiest gateways — into one of the region's more pleasant send-offs.
