MSC Cruises is doubling down on Italian food. The line will open an Eataly restaurant aboard MSC World Asia, its newest flagship, when the ship launches Mediterranean sailings on 4 December 2026. It's the brand's second floating Eataly — the first debuted on MSC World America — and a natural fit given MSC's Italian roots.
The concept goes beyond a standard specialty restaurant. Guests can expect regional Italian dishes built on quality ingredients, a chef's table with live cooking, terrace seating overlooking the ocean, and a wine cellar where you pick your own bottle. In other words, the market-hall-meets-restaurant experience Eataly is known for, translated to a cruise ship deck.
Eataly will be one piece of a much bigger dining scene. MSC World Asia plans more than 40 bars, lounges, cafés and restaurants, several developed with named culinary partners. MSC CEO Gianni Onorato framed the partnership as bringing a recognised culinary brand to sea, with a menu designed to reflect the line's international guest base while staying rooted in Italian tradition.
The itinerary matters as much as the menu. MSC World Asia will run seven-night Mediterranean loops calling at Barcelona, Marseille, Messina in Sicily, Civitavecchia for Rome, Naples and Valletta in Malta — a route that itself reads like a food tour, from Catalan tapas to Sicilian street food to Maltese pastizzi. Multiple embarkation ports make it easier to join the ship closer to home.
Why it matters for travellers: if you've ever felt that cruise dining skews generic, this is part of a wider push by lines to sign up big-name restaurant brands and chef partnerships at sea. An Eataly table — especially one with a chef's table and a pick-your-own wine cellar — gives food-focused cruisers a reason to book this specific ship rather than the cheapest cabin on any hull. And since the Mediterranean route hits several of Europe's great food cities, there's a pleasing symmetry between what's on your plate onboard and what's waiting ashore.
If you're weighing a 2026 Mediterranean cruise, MSC World Asia is now one to shortlist for the dining alone.
