The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives is rolling out its biggest refresh yet, with a wave of new villas, restaurants, wellness facilities and family programming set to launch in Q4 2026. The Hyatt-owned resort on Huruvalhi Island in Raa Atoll — recently named Best Beach Resort at the TTM Awards 2026 and Best Family Resort at the Global Destination Awards 2026 — is positioning the overhaul as an evolution of its playful, social character rather than a total reinvention.
The island's beach and overwater villas will get brighter, more contemporary interiors, still leaning into the brand's bold design sensibility rather than conventional island luxury. Families get the most new additions: the Lil' Shark Kids Club is expanding, there's an upgraded Art Hut, a new Outdoor Adventure Zone and a dedicated Teen Lounge game room — a level of teen-specific infrastructure that's still rare in the Maldives.
The Standard Spa is being rebuilt as an overwater wellness centre centred on a contrast circuit: hydrotherapy, steam, infrared sauna, cold plunge and infinity pool. Rather than a standard treatment menu, guests pick from three curated journeys — Healing & Relaxation, Recovery & Reset, and Movement & Balance — though sunrise yoga and doing nothing all afternoon remain perfectly valid options.
Food and drink get a boost too. A new Chef's Table offers an intimate, interactive tasting experience with the kitchen team. The most photogenic addition is the Castaway Bar, a standalone venue on Baby Island — a tiny islet in the middle of the lagoon — serving cocktails and light bites at sunset. The much-loved BBQ Shak will return as The Beach Grill, keeping the grilled seafood focus with a refreshed setting. And in a nod to resort-sport trends, Huruvalhi is adding its first pickleball court alongside the existing tennis court.
For travellers weighing up Maldives options, this matters in a couple of ways. First, timing: the new facilities arrive in Q4 2026, so anyone booking a 2026 trip should check what's open during their stay — or deliberately wait for the new spa and Castaway Bar. Second, Huruvalhi is carving out a niche as a luxury resort that genuinely caters to families without feeling stuffy, so it's worth shortlisting if you're travelling with kids of different ages. It also retains the perks The Standard is known for, including a thriving house reef right off the island.
Raa Atoll is a seaplane transfer from Malé, which adds cost and time but delivers quieter, less crowded waters than the atolls closer to the airport — a fair trade for many, especially with a full week booked.
