MSC Cruises has confirmed that Eataly, the Italian food brand with outposts around the world, will open onboard MSC World Asia when the ship launches this December. It becomes the second vessel in the fleet to carry the brand, following its debut on MSC World America last year.
The new ship is nearly ready. Sea trials are complete and delivery is set for November 25, 2026, with the maiden voyage departing December 4. From then on, World Asia runs seven-night Mediterranean circuits calling at Barcelona, Marseille, Messina, Civitavecchia (the port for Rome), Naples and Valletta — a handy loop of some of the region's most food-rewarding cities.
The Eataly restaurant slots into a lineup of more than 40 bars, lounges, cafés and restaurants across the ship. MSC describes it as a contemporary space with a menu built around regional Italian specialities and classics, and show cooking as the centrepiece: a dedicated table chef performs the prep and cooking in front of guests. There's also a terrace for dining with ocean views, and a personalised wine cellar experience at The Terrace Bar where you can pick your own bottle.
MSC CEO Gianni Onorato framed the partnership as a way of putting quality and tradition at the centre of the onboard food offer, and pointed to the Mediterranean itinerary as a natural fit for an Italian culinary brand. That logic is hard to argue with — a voyage between Catalonia, Provence, Sicily, Lazio, Campania and Malta paired with a restaurant dedicated to regional Italian cooking is a decent pitch for anyone whose holiday planning revolves around meals.
For cruisers weighing up MSC's newest flagship, Eataly is a meaningful addition. Speciality dining is often where a ship's personality shows, and a recognised brand with a show-cooking element and a self-select wine cellar gives World Asia a clearer identity than a generic upscale Italian venue would. It also signals MSC doubling down on the food-forward positioning it started with World America.
Worth flagging: the source doesn't specify pricing or whether Eataly carries a cover charge, so check the onboard dining packages when booking opens. With delivery in late November and first sailing December 4, early itineraries should be on sale soon, and Mediterranean sailings in December and January come with milder ports and thinner crowds than summer.
