Dubai's hotel scene keeps adding heavyweights, and the next one already has a date. Spanish group Meliá Hotels International has confirmed that J1 Hotel, a Gran Meliá property in the Jumeirah 1 district, will open in the final quarter of 2027 — the first time the Gran Meliá brand has touched down in the UAE.
The beachfront build will hold 366 rooms and suites facing the Arabian Gulf and the Dubai skyline, with 40 of them getting private pools. Around the rooms: four swimming pools, a 140-metre private beach, landscaped grounds, retail space, a fitness centre, a rooftop terrace, plus a ballroom and event facilities aimed at the business crowd. It becomes Meliá's third Dubai property, sitting alongside Meliá Desert Palm and ME Dubai.
The dining line-up is arguably the real headline. Zuma Beach House will make its Middle East beachfront debut here — only its second lifestyle location after Mykonos — pairing Japanese izakaya food with a pool, lounge and bar on the sand. Mayfair's Park Chinois is bringing its 1930s Shanghai glamour and after-dark DJ scene to the rooftop, while Novikov Restaurant & Beach Club adds Mediterranean cooking, handmade pasta and wood-fired grills with cabanas on a semi-private beach.
Two newer names round things out. Jul's, originally from Ibiza and recently launched in London, will serve a Greek-led menu under a "no limit cuisine" philosophy that borrows techniques well beyond traditional Greek cooking. Tala, a Pan-Middle Eastern restaurant overlooking the marina, is designed as a "Sunlit Marina Majlis" — Riviera styling meets the intimacy of a traditional Arabic majlis, with a show kitchen, terrace and VIP lounge. An all-day dining concept is still under wraps. The hotel is clearly angling to pull in Dubai residents, not just guests.
Up on the roof, the Journée Wellbeing space — run by Waring Wellbeing Hospitality — will blend Mediterranean-style wellness with spa, medical wellness and premium fitness facilities, tapping into Dubai's growing appetite for high-end health retreats.
At the helm is General Manager Pedro Neto, a 17-year Four Seasons veteran with stints in Lisbon, Maui, Nevis and Prague, and most recently GM roles at Octant Vila Monte and Verdelago Resort in Portugal's Algarve. He's framing the hotel as a place Dubaiers will drop into for dinner or a beach day as much as a stay.
Why it matters: if you like the idea of one address that covers a beach club, several destination restaurants and a rooftop spa, J1 is shaping up as a strong contender for a 2027 Dubai trip — especially for travellers who've already done the Palm and Downtown and want something in the quieter, more low-rise Jumeirah stretch. Book early-anniversary openings if you can; Dubai's newest hotels usually launch with sharp introductory rates before the hype kicks in.
