Edmonton has a fresh excuse to slow down. Ro Nordic Spa has opened its doors in the Old Strathcona area, at 10023 81st Ave NW, and it's built around the classic Nordic formula: heat, cold, rest, repeat.
The setup is straightforward. Every session includes the saltwater hot tub, a Finnish sauna with essential oils on hand, a saltwater cold plunge, and both indoor and outdoor lounges with fireplaces. You move through the circuit at your own pace. Lockers, a robe and two towels (one for the sauna bench, one for the shower) are included, and the showers are stocked with organic products. Sandals cost extra.
Two house rules worth knowing before you book: it's adults-only at 18 and over, and it's a phone-free zone — devices stay in your locker. Complimentary tea and water are on offer, with kombucha, craft soft drinks and sparkling water to buy, and the spa plans to get licensed later for local beer, wine, prosecco and champagne. Registered massage therapy is coming soon, starting at $120 for an hour, $170 for 90 minutes and $225 for two hours.
There are three ways to visit. Shared community sessions run 105 minutes and cost $48 per person on weekdays until 5 p.m., rising to $55 after 5 p.m. Friday and through the weekend — reservations are recommended. Private group sessions take up to 14 people for two hours, from $275 for five guests on weekday afternoons ($42 per extra person) up to $325 plus $55 per additional guest on weekends; booking is required. If you want more atmosphere than silence, the Friday Night Social runs 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. with music and a livelier crowd for $60 per person.
Hours are generous: daily from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., so you can slot a session around work or sightseeing. For travellers passing through Alberta's capital — especially in winter, when a hot soak and sauna hits differently — it's an easy, affordable add-on that doesn't require a full spa-resort stay. The weekday afternoon rate is the best value, and the Friday social is a fun alternative to the usual pub night.
