Abu Dhabi has a new excuse to get outdoors now that the cooler months have arrived. Zayed Sports City has kicked off Village Nights, a weekend-focused winter festival set up near the tennis courts and the Zone D pitches, built around Emirati culture, food and family-friendly entertainment.

The line-up leans on familiar local names. Food and drink comes from DRVN, Tummy Yummies, Costa Coffee, Healthy Station, Ka'aki w Nos and LAMORE, with the popular burger brand SALT expected to join soon. Culture is covered too, with traditional Ayala performances scheduled across the opening weekends, alongside live music, bingo sessions and interactive games.

The festival launched over the weekend of October 9 to 11. Friday's programme mixed Block Party Bingo with Caolan, a set from Arabic fusion band Musilive and Ayala dancing. Saturday brought singer-guitarist James Deegan, Music Bingo with Dylan & Dillon and more Ayala performances, while Sunday featured live sets from YFY through the evening. If you missed that first round, the same entertainment programme repeats the following weekend, October 16 to 18.

Timing is simple: Village Nights runs 5pm to 10pm on Fridays and 4pm to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Food and beverage outlets stay open 5pm to 10pm Monday to Friday, with the live entertainment and family activities concentrated across the weekend. Best of all, entry is free — you only pay for whatever you eat and drink.

For travellers passing through Abu Dhabi between October trips or residents easing into the outdoor season, it's a low-cost, low-effort evening: grab a table, order burgers or coffee, and catch traditional Emirati dance you'd otherwise only see at heritage sites. It works equally well as a family outing or a casual meetup, and its location at Zayed Sports City makes it easy to pair with an afternoon at nearby attractions. Just aim for the weekend if you want the full programme of performances.
