Tampa travellers are getting a direct line to the Dominican Republic's capital. Breeze Airways will launch twice-weekly nonstop flights between Tampa International and Santo Domingo's Las Américas International Airport starting June 18, 2027 — and it will be the first airline to serve the route year-round.

Flights run Mondays and Fridays on Airbus A220-300s, and tickets are already on sale. The timings work nicely for a long weekend: the Friday flight leaves Tampa at 10:30 a.m. and lands at 1:25 p.m., early enough to check in and head out for your first evening in the city. The return departs Santo Domingo at 2:25 p.m., getting you back to Tampa by 5:30 p.m. — which leaves time for a relaxed final breakfast and a morning stroll before heading to the airport.

Santo Domingo is a different flavour of Dominican Republic trip compared with the beach-resort circuit. Breeze already flies from Tampa to Punta Cana (launched July 2026), on the country's eastern resort coast, but the capital offers something else: the UNESCO-listed Colonial Zone, packed with 16th-century churches, museums and café-lined streets, plus the Caribbean-side Malecón waterfront and the cave-and-lagoon complex of Los Tres Ojos just outside the centre. Three nights is enough to focus on the historic quarter and a few good dinners; a week gives you room to range further afield.

The route is part of a busy Caribbean push by Breeze in Tampa. Nassau service began in June 2026, Punta Cana followed in July, San José in Costa Rica arrived in October, and Tampa–St. Thomas flights start December 16, 2026, operating Wednesdays and Saturdays. Santo Domingo has also been building US connections elsewhere — Arajet recently added Newark service — so the capital is easier to reach from the States than it has been in years.

Why it matters: year-round scheduling is the key detail here. Rather than a seasonal winter escape, this is a recurring nonstop you can book any time of year, and the Monday–Friday pattern makes short city breaks genuinely practical. If you're on Florida's Gulf Coast and have been defaulting to Punta Cana for a Dominican fix, the capital's museums, food scene and walkable old town are now a two-and-a-half-hour flight away.
