Greek hospitality group SWOT Hospitality, based in Athens, has quietly assembled a collection of properties that push the usual sun-and-souvlaki island break in fresh directions. From a sculptor-in-residence programme on Zakynthos to an adults-only hideaway on Mykonos, here's what's changing about the Greek escape.
Start on Zakynthos at the Olea All Suite Hotel, a Design Hotels member with 89 suites and a genuinely unusual hook: creative residencies that bring working artists onto the property so guests can watch, and join in with, the creative process as part of their stay. The current programme is tied to MYTHOS MATERIA, a site-specific exhibition by Greek sculptor Theodoros Visvardis. He works in marble and other natural materials, using the island's mythology and history as raw material — his point being that these ancient stories still have something to say, rather than belonging behind glass in a museum.
Then there's Paros, one of the Cyclades' most in-demand islands, where SWOT now runs three properties with three distinct personalities. Parian Chronicle works best as a base camp: use it to explore the island beyond the coast, from whitewashed villages and small churches to tavernas and walking trails. Vione Paros is the wellness pick — a 40-suite hotel where 28 suites come with private pools, and the spa is one of the largest on Paros. Expect treatments and movement sessions bookended by long lunches and Mediterranean dinners. OVEA Paros goes for privacy and space instead, with an infinity pool, meditation areas, gardens and a restaurant called KOA built around slow, long meals.
Finally, Mykonos. Yes, that Mykonos — beach clubs, DJs, the works. Omeon Mykonos is an intimate, adults-only hotel that makes a different pitch: stay somewhere quiet and walkable to the action, then go home to sleep. It's aimed squarely at couples who want the island's restaurants and nightlife on their terms, not at their pillow at 4am.
Why does this matter if you're planning a Greek summer? Because it means you no longer have to choose between a design-forward stay, a proper spa holiday, an active island exploration or a party trip — you can mix them, often within a single group of hotels. Paros in particular rewards travellers who rent a car for a few days and split time between the inland villages and the beach clubs of Naoussa, and having three well-matched properties to anchor that trip makes planning easier. On Mykonos, an adults-only base is a smart workaround for anyone who's been burned by thin hotel walls above a loud street.
Practically speaking, these are luxury-tier properties, so book early for July and August — the Cyclades fill up months ahead, and suite stock at smaller hotels like Vione or Omeon is limited. Shoulder season (May–June, September) is when you'll get the best rates and quieter beaches without sacrificing weather.
