A solid excuse to get your holiday shopping sorted before December chaos hits: the Festival of Crafts is back at Calgary's BMO Centre for four days of browsing, buying and meeting the people who actually made the stuff.
Now in its 42nd year, the market brings together more than 145 Canadian artists, artisans and designers under one roof at Stampede Park. Expect pottery, original artwork, handmade jewellery, clothing, home decor and gourmet treats — plus ornaments and seasonal decorations you won't find in a big-box store. The whole thing is run by Signatures, a Canadian company founded in 1980 that exists to give artists a direct line to shoppers, so when you buy something, you're buying it from (or about as close as you can get to) the maker.
The dates for your diary: Thursday, Oct. 29 to Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, in Hall F of the BMO Centre at 20 Round Up Way SE. Doors open at 10 a.m. daily, but closing times shift — 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are refreshingly cheap. General admission is $8, seniors 65 and over pay $6, and anyone 17 and under gets in free. Even better, if you swing by after 5 p.m. on Thursday or Friday, admission drops to $4 — seniors pay just $3 on Thursday evening. Buy online or at the door.
Getting there is easy whether you drive or not. The BMO Centre offers on-site parking at a flat $18 per day, payable through the MyParking app or at machines on site. If you'd rather not deal with Stampede Park traffic, the Victoria Park/Stampede CTrain station sits directly beside the building.
Why should a traveller care? If you're in Calgary in late October — or planning a trip around then — this is one of the easiest ways to knock out a chunk of your gift list while supporting Canadian makers, all for less than the price of a coffee and a pastry. The evening discount makes it an easy after-work or post-sightseeing stop, and with hundreds of vendors in one hall, you can cover a lot of ground in a couple of hours. Stampede Park itself is worth the trip: it sits on the edge of downtown, steps from the RiverWalk and the restaurants of Victoria Park, so you can pair an afternoon of shopping with dinner nearby.
