Disney Cruise Line has wrapped its biggest Alaska season yet and moved both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder down the Pacific coast for a fall and winter programme out of San Diego.
The two ships spent May through late September based in Vancouver, each running 15 weeklong Alaska cruises in what Disney billed as its largest season in the region. Itineraries sailed roundtrip from Vancouver with ports including Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan and Skagway, plus scenic cruising through the Inside Passage and past Dawes Glacier. The Magic was a newcomer to Alaskan waters this year, while the Wonder is an established face there. Notably, the Wonder squeezed a drydock into the season, pausing briefly for maintenance at the Esquimalt Graving Dock in Victoria, British Columbia.
Now both vessels are offering warm-weather itineraries from San Diego. The Disney Magic is running three- to seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera and Baja California, calling at Catalina Island, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta through early November. Its season closes with a 14-night Panama Canal transit ending in Galveston, Texas — a repositioning cruise that could appeal to anyone after a longer, one-off sailing.
The Disney Wonder is the more committed West Coast resident: it operates from San Diego year-round and will keep sailing there through late April 2027. Its schedule mixes short Baja California getaways with six- and seven-night Mexican Riviera trips stopping at Isla Catalina, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán.
Then the cycle starts again. Both ships return to Vancouver for the 2027 Alaska summer, with sailings running May through September.
For families weighing a Disney cruise, this is a useful bit of calendar logic: Alaska is a summer-only product, while San Diego covers the shoulder and winter months with shorter, sunnier and generally cheaper sailings. If you want glaciers and whale-watching, book the Vancouver season early; if you want Cabo beaches and pool days without school-holiday crowds, the autumn and spring San Diego departures are the sweet spot. The Magic's Panama Canal sailing is also worth a look for travellers with more time who want a proper ocean voyage rather than a port-hopping loop.
