Europe is getting a serious upgrade. A new crop of itineraries pairs the continent's most famous sights with five-star hotels, Michelin meals and even private jets — and whether you want to add a few days before or after a cruise or book a full bespoke trip, the options now stretch well beyond the coach tour.

The trains are the headline act. Golden Eagle's Danube Express has a new nine-day Turkish Treasures route for 2026, with four nights aboard plus hotel stays in Istanbul and Cappadocia — Topkapi Palace by day, a hot-air balloon over the valleys at the end. It starts at $21,075. Belmond's new Britannic Explorer, meanwhile, does a four-day run from London Victoria to the Cornish coast with food by Simon Rogan, a Wellness Suite on board and a gala dinner at Hauser & Wirth's Da Costa, from $13,040.

Guided touring is going small-group and high-end too. Tauck's 14-day Paris, Dordogne and Bordeaux trip (from $17,890) threads in Michelin dinners and a private visit to Montmartre — the last working vineyard in Paris — with a stay at the Hotel du Palais Biarritz, once Napoleon III's summer residence. Globus runs an 11-day Armenia and Georgia route capped at 18 guests from $5399, while Scenic and APT cover the Alps and Scandinavia, the latter with a backstage tour of Oslo Opera House.

If you'd rather earn your luxury, walking and cycling trips have joined the party. Intrepid's Tour du Mont Blanc (from $5670) is an eight-day trek with luggage transferred daily; Onlyluxe's six-day Amalfi Coast walk (from $15,280) keeps a six-to-one guest ratio and beds you down at Capri's only five-star hotel; UTracks' Croatia Bike and Boat lets you e-bike between Dalmatian islands and sleep on a deluxe yacht from $4140.

For the hotel-focused, The Berkeley in Knightsbridge sells a dining package with up to $620 of credit across 19 restaurants and bars spanning Claridge's, The Connaught and The Emory. And at the very top end, Four Seasons has a 20-day private-jet wellness itinerary inspired by The White Lotus — eight destinations including the Maldives, Marrakech and Maui — which will set you back a cool $293,844 per person.

Why it matters: these trips fill the gap cruise passengers often struggle with — what to do before embarkation or after disembarkation in Europe. Rail itineraries like Belmond's Cornwall route and Golden Eagle's Turkey trip are natural bookends, while the walking and cycling options suit travellers who want active days without giving up good food and comfortable beds. Price points range from roughly $4,000 to eye-watering six figures, so there's an entry level for most luxury budgets.
