MSC Cruises is back as title sponsor of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin — its second straight year holding top billing for the race. For the cruise line, the motorsport tie-in is less about a single weekend and more about cementing a foothold in Texas, a market it only recently entered in a big way.

The timing is pointed. The race lands roughly two weeks before MSC marks the first anniversary of its year-round sailings from Galveston, which began on 9 November 2025 aboard MSC Seascape. Those are seven-night Western Caribbean itineraries calling at Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico and Roatán in Honduras. MSC's US marketing chief, Suzanne Salas, presented the Constructors' Trophy on the podium, calling the sponsorship a way to reach new audiences across the state.

This isn't a one-off splash, either. MSC holds title sponsorship of three races across the 2026 F1 season — Barcelona, Austin and São Paulo — and will repeat the feat in 2027. It has been a Global Partner of Formula 1 since 2022, with that deal running through 2030, and since February 2025 it has also been a Premium Partner of the BWT Alpine team.

For holidaymakers, the practical takeaway is what MSC Seascape has become for Texans. Departing from Galveston means no flight to a Florida or Texas mega-port is needed for Gulf Coast residents, and the ship leans into its home state with themed food and drink, country music, dueling pianos, line dancing and a Big Texas Sailaway Party before heading to Caribbean beaches. It's a Caribbean cruise with a Texan send-off — an increasingly common way lines differentiate regional homeports.

Why should a traveller care? If you're based in the central or southern US, year-round Galveston departures have quietly opened up a no-fly Caribbean option, and the F1 partnership signals MSC isn't treating Texas as an experiment. Cruise fans who also follow Formula 1 will find the two brands increasingly entwined at races on both sides of the Atlantic — and occasionally at sea.

Who it suits: families and couples in Texas and neighbouring states wanting an easy-drive cruise, F1 fans considering a race weekend in Austin who might tack on a sailing, and anyone comparing Gulf homeports against the bigger Florida hubs. Expect MSC to keep pushing the Texas angle as the Galveston program matures into its second year.
