Canadians looking to escape winter have three more options this season. Sunwing Vacations has rolled out its Winter 2026–2027 schedule, and alongside returning favourites like Cancun, Punta Cana and Montego Bay, the tour operator is adding three fresh routes: Toronto to Acapulco, Winnipeg to Puerto Plata and Montreal to Cozumel.
The new city pairs are worth noting for what they unlock. The Winnipeg–Puerto Plata link gives travellers from the Prairies a more direct path to the Dominican Republic's north coast, a stretch of beaches that has been steadily gaining Canadian airlift in recent years. Acapulco and Cozumel, meanwhile, broaden Sunwing's Mexican footprint beyond the usual heavyweights — Acapulco is a return to a classic Pacific resort city that has largely ceded the spotlight to Cancun and Los Cabos in the Canadian market, while Cozumel pairs well with dive trips and Riviera Maya add-ons.
On the resort side, Sunwing is pushing several Mexico properties to the front of the brochure, including Hotel Xcaret Mexico and Hotel Xcaret Arte — the park-integrated all-inclusives south of Playa del Carmen — plus the adults-only TRS Coral Hotel. Expect a wide slate of all-inclusive options in Puerto Plata and Montego Bay too, which have long anchored the company's Caribbean programme.
The expansion continues a pattern for Sunwing, which has concentrated its winter flying on proven sun destinations while layering in new routes and cities. Last winter the operator widened its Dominican Republic offer with vacations to Samaná, and Puerto Plata has been a recurring feature of its seasonal lineup for years. The Winter 2026–2027 programme runs through April 30, 2027, so there's a long booking window from the depths of a Canadian January to late spring escapes.
For travellers, the practical takeaway is straightforward: more departure cities and more direct options mean less backtracking through Toronto or Montreal to reach the beach. Manitobans heading to the DR north coast and Montrealers eyeing Cozumel are the clearest winners this season. Bookings will typically be packaged with flights, transfers and hotel — the model Sunwing is built on — so it's worth comparing the package price against a DIY flight-and-hotel combo before committing. As ever with seasonal sun programmes, routes depend on demand, so locking in early for the less common city pairs is the safer bet.
