Sri Lanka packs tea hills, ancient cities, leopard country and surf beaches into an island you can cross in a day, and specialist operator Inside Travel clearly thinks it deserves more than the standard loop. The company behind InsideJapan and InsideAsia has just added Sri Lanka to its map, with seven new itineraries on sale now.
The programmes were built over the past year by Subcontinent Programme Manager Jess Andrews, who spent three years living on the island and previously developed trips for Ampersand and Abercrombie & Kent. The pitch is simple: local connections that get travellers past the usual highlights and into genuine cultural exchange. The launch also marks the next stage of Inside Travel's push into Southern Asia and the subcontinent.
Four of the seven trips show the range well. Sri Lanka Uncovered is the all-rounder, pairing famous stops like the tea country around Ella with Wilpattu National Park on the north-west coast — a far quieter alternative to the headline parks, with rich wildlife. Wilder Sri Lanka focuses on ecosystems, moving through jungle, mountains and coastline with an emphasis on lesser-visited national parks. A Family Adventure itinerary responds to growing demand from families who want more than a beach, while the luxury option threads together boutique properties and special stays, including time in the Hatton Hill Country and its mountain scenery.
There's also a Maldives add-on: a few days of pure beach time tacked onto the end of any itinerary. It's designed as an extension rather than a standalone trip, so it slots neatly onto a Sri Lanka holiday you're already planning.
Worth noting for conscientious travellers: Inside Travel is a B Corp and says its 'Undertourism' approach — working with local communities to spread the benefits of tourism — will shape the Sri Lanka experiences too. Its recent Impact Report sets out how that's worked in other destinations. And this is framed as a first release, with more Sri Lanka product promised as the operator builds out its local network through 2026.
Who's this for? Anyone who wants the island's variety in a single trip — tea-covered hills to tropical coast, ancient heritage sites to wildlife reserves — with the structure and on-the-ground contacts of a specialist operator, rather than a self-drive battle with tuk-tuk drivers and train timetables. If you've been circling Sri Lanka and putting off the planning, someone has now done the legwork for you.
