Uluwatu, the clifftop corner of Bali's Bukit Peninsula, has world-class surf, hidden beaches and sunsets that draw people back year after year. One long-term resident has now rounded up the 17 villas she recommends to friends visiting in 2026, with bedroom counts, starting prices and a clear guide to which neighbourhood suits which traveller.
The first decision is where to base yourself. Bingin is the bohemian surf village, packed with walkable cafes and boutiques – though note that the famous warungs on Bingin Beach itself were demolished in 2025. Padang Padang is the busiest and most convenient strip, home to the Eat, Pray, Love beach and some of the area's best restaurants along Jalan Labuan Sait. Suluban is all dramatic cliffs, big surf and sundowners at Single Fin. Pecatu's hilltops are greener and quieter with big sunset views, while Nyang Nyang, Melasti and Pandawa offer wild, secluded sand and clifftop estates. Balangan is the sleepy option, minutes from one of the prettiest beaches still lined with local warungs.
Among the standouts: Slim Summer House in Bingin channels a mid-century Mediterranean mansion with marble, high ceilings, a private sauna and ice bath, and Aperol Spritz on tap, from IDR 2,300,000 per night. Nisí Villas pairs private pool villas with boutique-hotel service – daily housekeeping, turndown, in-villa breakfasts and a complimentary buggy to zip around Bingin, plus a recovery area with steam room and plunge pools. Two- to four-bedroom options start at IDR 5,400,000.
For big groups and weddings, Pandawa Cliff Estate is hard to beat. Designed by Balinese architect Popo Danes, it's actually five villas above Pandawa Beach with 26 bedrooms, six pools, a full-size tennis court, squash court, gym, spa and kids' playroom, sleeping up to 52 adults. One villa starts around IDR 28.7 million a night; the whole estate runs about IDR 159 million. Many staff have been there since it opened in 2014, and there's a resident white Kintamani dog named Kinta.
Surf-focused travellers should look at Uluwatu Surf Villas above Suluban Beach, an eco-conscious resort built from reclaimed teak and ironwood, with clifftop ocean views, private pools and communal lawns made for post-surf beers. Over in Balangan, Bellana Villas offers modern two-bedroom homes with private pools, Bengkirai hardwood finishes, daily housekeeping and optional private chefs – a good fit for digital nomads settling in for a while.
The wider list also flags villas for couples (Sejati Villa, Hideaway Villas), families (Casa Sula, Lago Villas), design lovers (Villa Zyloh, Summer Ulu, The Luxe Bali) and events (Uluwatu Estate, Private Jet Villa, The Surga Villa Estate), so there's an option for most budgets and group sizes.
If you're planning a Bali trip, Uluwatu deserves at least three to five days, and picking the right base matters more here than in most of the island. Beach swimmers should head to Padang Padang, surfers to Suluban, and anyone craving peace to Nyang Nyang or Balangan.
