Bangkok has picked up a proper Halloween season destination this year. Happitat, the lifestyle and retail complex on Bang Na-Trat Road, is running its Spooktacular Festival right through the weekend, with themed decor, atmospheric lighting, sound effects and costumed characters dotted around the grounds — plus hidden stories and surprises tucked into every corner for anyone who fancies a bit of exploring.

The programme is broader than your average mall photo-op. Families can let kids loose at Spooky Bouncy Castle, a giant Halloween-themed inflatable play area, or sign up for spooky sketching and splatter painting workshops at FesT Art Town. The Rooftop Horror Movie Night screens a mix of family-friendly films and popular horror titles in a specially built open-air setting on Saturday and Sunday. A colourful Halloween Parade with costumed mascots marches through on both weekend days, and the Halloween Music Festival brings in a rotating line-up of artists across different genres from Friday to Sunday.

The big draw is Saturday night. From 7pm to 8.30pm, Nene Royal takes the stage for Bangkok, her first full-band concert. It's a notable booking: the 16-year-old Thai rock sensation made history as the first Thai winner of America's Got Talent, and this set — with her powerful vocals and signature guitar playing — marks a chance for home fans to see her claim-to-fame talent up close in an intimate festival setting.

The festival wraps on Sunday, so if the haunted lights, live music or a rooftop horror double-bill sound appealing, this weekend is the window.
