There's a fresh reason to break a sweat in Singapore's northeast: the Punggol ActiveSG Gym has opened its doors at the Punggol Regional Sports Centre, and entry is completely free until 31st October 2026.
The gym sits on Level 2 of the sports centre, which isn't due to fully open until the end of 2026 — so locals get an early taste of what's coming. The space is roomy by gym standards, with a layout that early visitors online have praised for feeling uncrowded. Equipment covers the usual bases: treadmills, stationary bikes, rowing machines, stair climbers and free weights.
The real selling point might be the view. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the cardio section, looking out over surrounding greenery, and there's a sightline down to the infinity pool on Level 1. If you're going to grind through a treadmill session, a bit of scenery helps.
Hours are generous: 7am to 10pm daily, so there's room for a pre-work session or a late-evening pump. And even once the free period ends in late October 2026, prices stay friendly. Singapore citizens and permanent residents pay $2.50 per entry, while students and seniors pay just $1.50 — a fraction of what a commercial gym membership costs. As with other ActiveSG facilities, it runs on a pay-per-entry model rather than a contract.
For visitors staying in the Punggol area — or longer-term travellers basing themselves in the northeast — this is a genuinely cheap way to keep up a fitness routine without signing anything. Punggol itself has plenty to pair with a workout: the waterway and park connectors are popular for cycling and running, Punggol Coast Mall has recently added food and entertainment options like Teo Heng KTV, and the area's container park and autonomous shuttle trials have given the neighbourhood a bit of an experimental streak.
Worth keeping an eye on, too: the full Punggol Regional Sports Centre is expected to roll out more facilities through 2026, so the gym is likely just the first piece of a bigger complex.
