Big change is coming for anyone sitting on a stash of Best Western points. On January 5, 2027, Best Western Rewards will be folded into a revamped WorldHotels Rewards program, part of a much wider shake-up: parent company BWH Hotels is making WorldHotels the global masterbrand for its entire portfolio - more than 4,000 hotels across 18 brands in over 100 countries.
The good news first: WorldHotels says all current benefits will be protected and members will keep the value of their existing points. Both programs already share a lot of DNA - points that never expire, member rates, status matching, and a base earning rate of 10 points per dollar at most properties. The two schemes even use the same elite tiers (Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Diamond Select) with matching 2026 elite-night thresholds.
But there are real differences, and that's where the questions start. WorldHotels Rewards Diamond and Diamond Select members can often get free breakfast and lounge access at participating hotels - perks that Best Western Rewards doesn't offer at all. We also don't yet know how tiers will map across, since the new program will have just three membership levels. And award pricing is a puzzle: Best Western uses variable free-night pricing tied to expected daily rates, while WorldHotels publishes no award chart or formula. Whether balances, earning rates or redemption costs change is still up in the air.
The rebrand itself is the bigger story. BWH Hotels currently runs three companies - WorldHotels, Best Western and SureStay - and WorldHotels will now sit above them all. It sounds odd given Best Western's household name, but CEO Larry Cuculic says research showed many travellers only know part of the portfolio. The move is clearly meant to push the group's upscale and luxury side, which will be grouped under WorldHotels Collection (spanning Luxury, Elite, Distinctive, Crafted, Backdrop and Residences). Individual hotels will keep their names and signage, though a new website and app are coming.
For anyone with Best Western points or status, the date to watch is November 16, 2026, when WorldHotels has promised more details on the unified program. Until then, points keep their value and nothing changes - so there's no rush to burn balances, but it's worth checking in before the January 2027 switch. Frequent guests who value breakfast and lounge perks should pay attention: if the merged program adopts WorldHotels-style elite benefits, top-tier status could get a lot more valuable.
