Carnival's biggest and newest ship in Texas is about to get a lot more flexible. The Carnival Jubilee, the line's Excel-class flagship sailing from Galveston, will run its first regular programme of short cruises in the 2028-29 season, mixing four-, five-, six- and eight-day sailings between April 2028 and April 2029.
The headline change is the new four-day Western Caribbean option. These depart on select Thursdays from 27 April 2028 through 26 April 2029, with a call at Cozumel, Mexico — a long-weekend shape that's rare for a ship this size. If you can stretch a day or two more, five-day sailings run on select Saturdays and Mondays from 17 April 2028 to 30 April 2029, pairing Cozumel with Progreso on the Yucatán coast.
The shorter itineraries are built around Carnival's Paradise Collection, the line's roster of exclusive stops, though the Jubilee's longer sailings are where those show up most clearly. A one-off six-day Western Caribbean cruise departs 29 October 2028, visiting Cozumel and Isla Tropicale at Roatán in Honduras.
Before settling into the Texas routine, the Jubilee has two eight-day departures pencilled in. On 1 April 2028 there's a Bahamas cruise calling at Celebration Key, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay and Nassau — a full tour of Carnival's private island portfolio. Then on 9 April 2028, an eight-day Western Caribbean sailing visits Cozumel, Isla Tropicale and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
For travellers, the appeal is straightforward. Big resort-style ships usually get locked into week-long itineraries, so anyone without the time or budget for a seven-nighter has often had to settle for smaller, older vessels. Putting the Jubilee — with its waterpark, zones and array of dining — on four- and five-day routes means first-time cruisers and time-pressed families can sample the flagship experience without committing a full week. It also makes Galveston an easier option for people in Texas and the wider south-central US who'd otherwise connect through Florida airports.
Bookings for the full 2028-29 Galveston season are now open, and the mix of departure days — Thursdays for the short cruises, Saturdays and Mondays for the five-nights — gives some room to line up a sailing with school holidays or a long weekend. If you're tempted by the Bahamas or Jamaica itineraries, note they're single departures in early April 2028, so they'll likely be the first to fill.
