Cirque du Soleil is turning a 200-year-old Christmas poem into an acrobatic spectacle in downtown Toronto. 'Twas The Night Before…, the company's first-ever Christmas production, returns to Meridian Hall for a run from December 10, 2026 to January 2, 2027, presented with TO Live. There will be 30 performances across the run, and tickets start at $70.
The story borrows its premise from Clement Clarke Moore's A Visit from St. Nicholas. A young girl and her father get separated in a snowstorm and end up wandering through a series of whimsical places, meeting characters who help them rebuild their holiday spirit. Organisers pitch it as a sing-along, dance-along experience rather than a straight circus show.
The acts are the real draw: reindeer hoop divers, breakdancing elves and a roller-skating duo, plus the kind of high-flying acrobatics Cirque is known for. If you've only seen the company's touring tent shows, this is a different flavour — festive, family-friendly and built around a familiar seasonal story.
Meridian Hall sits at 1 Front Street East, right in the King Street theatre district, so it pairs easily with a pre-show dinner downtown. Showtimes vary by date, and with 30 performances there's decent flexibility — but holiday runs in Toronto sell quickly, especially the dates between Christmas and New Year, so booking early is the smart move.
For travellers, this is a good excuse to plan a winter city break: Toronto in December means the Christmas market in the Distillery District, skating at City Hall, and now a headline circus show, all within walking distance of each other.
