Delta Air Lines will launch nonstop service from Salt Lake City to Flagstaff Pulliam Airport starting June 7, 2027, giving travellers a new front door to two of Arizona's biggest draws: Sedona and the Grand Canyon's South Rim, both under two hours' drive away.
The route will run twice daily on a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-550, split between 10 first-class seats, 20 extra-legroom Comfort seats and 20 standard economy seats. It marks Delta's first time serving the northern Arizona airport, which until now has been a one-airline town — American flies in from Dallas Fort Worth and Phoenix Sky Harbor.
For Delta flyers, the appeal is connectivity. Salt Lake City has become the airline's western feeder hub, with recent additions like Grand Junction, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Sonoma County joining the map over the past two years. Pair those with new long-haul nonstops from SLC to Lima and Seoul that launched in 2025, and a one-stop itinerary from Seoul or Lima to the Grand Canyon suddenly becomes bookable on a single carrier — with SkyMiles earning along the way.
There's money behind the move, too. The route is backed by more than $1.3 million in incentives, including an $800,000 federal grant that guarantees Delta a minimum revenue floor. That kind of support has become a common tool for smaller airports trying to lure carriers to underserved destinations.
Why should holidaymakers care? Flagstaff Pulliam beats the alternative for many travellers. The nearest big airports — Phoenix and Las Vegas — are each three to four hours' drive from the Grand Canyon's South Rim, so flying directly into Flagstaff shaves serious time off a canyon trip. The town itself sits at over 2,000 metres elevation among ponderosa pines, making it a cooler summer base than Phoenix, and it's a handy launch point for Sedona's red rocks, Route 66 nostalgia in nearby Williams, and the scenic railway to the canyon.
Expect award seats and cash fares to open up once the schedule loads — and if the route follows the pattern of Delta's other western feeders, connections through SLC could make a Grand Canyon trip noticeably simpler for SkyMiles members.
