Rogers Place is about to smell like horse and stadium popcorn. The Canadian Finals Rodeo — the national championship of professional rodeo and the season finale for the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association — runs Oct. 7 to 10, 2026 in Edmonton, with five performances, a massive Western market, and a stack of free events around the Ice District.
The competition itself covers the full rodeo slate: bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing and breakaway roping. Every performance has a dress-up theme — Fringe and Turquoise, Western Retro, Canadian Chic, Denim Couture and finally Glitter and Gold — and each one runs roughly two and a half hours. If you've never been, the rodeo's own advice is that Wednesday night suits first-timers, Friday brings the loudest crowd, and the Saturday matinee is the family-friendly pick.
Tickets are on Ticketmaster, with the cheapest seat at press time going for $57.33, and prices varying by session and section.
The rodeo isn't confined to the arena. The Cinch Canadian Country Expo takes over the Edmonton Expo Centre with 100-plus vendors selling Western fashion, tack, home décor and equine gear from across the Prairies. A free shuttle (no ticket needed) loops between the Expo Centre and Rogers Place daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, with extra buses from 4 p.m.
Best of all, plenty of it costs nothing. The Tailgate Party runs 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7-9 and 2 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 10, with live music, a mechanical bull, food trucks, a bar and a tattoo booth. Fan Park hosts a free After Party with live performances from 9:30 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 10 and 11 — no cover charge. And from Oct. 1, the CFR Backroads series spreads 30-plus Alberta artists across 13 free shows in venues around the city.
For travellers, this is a solid excuse for an early-October Alberta trip: one ticket gets you championship sport, and the rest of the Western experience — markets, music, tailgates — is free. It works equally well as a couples' city break or a family outing, especially if you time it to the Saturday matinee.
