October is shaping up to be a big month for K-pop fans in Singapore. Fresh off the news that BIGBANG is heading to town on tour — with a McDonald's collaboration also in the pipeline — G-Dragon's fashion label PEACEMINUSONE has now announced a Toy Story crossover pop-up called The First Fan, running from 16 October to 11 November.
The event is being staged with homegrown collectibles company MightyJaxx, and while the exact address hasn't been confirmed yet, it's slated for Clarke Quay. Entry will most likely be ticketed, with prices still to be announced, so fans should keep an eye on the official website for updates.
The concept is sweet rather than cynical: the idea that our childhood toys were our first fans, cheering us on before anyone else believed in us. Toy Story is the obvious vehicle for that sentiment, and the mash-up with PEACEMINUSONE's offbeat, fashion-forward aesthetic gives it an edge. Think Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Rex and the three-eyed aliens reimagined in the label's signature daisy-motif styling — a look that has already turned heads at earlier editions.
Singapore is actually the fourth stop for the pop-up. It debuted in Seoul in July, then travelled to Tokyo and Hong Kong, so there's a decent preview of what to expect. Photo opportunities will be the big draw, but the merch is where things get serious: past editions have stocked keychains, apparel, bags, accessories, plushies and figures. For deep-pocketed collectors, Japan's run included life-sized Woody and Buzz figures priced at over 4 million yen each, plus a limited-edition Crystal Figure Buzz capped at just 888 pieces worldwide. Whether those headline items make it to Singapore isn't confirmed, but exclusive drops are a fair bet.
The timing is no accident. With BIGBANG's concert dates falling almost alongside the pop-up's opening, fans can build a whole weekend around it — a show one night, daisy-covered Buzz Lightyears the next. Just budget accordingly; between tour merch and pop-up exclusives, wallets will be under pressure.
For travellers, this is a good excuse to pair a Singapore trip with something time-sensitive. Clarke Quay is an easy base — riverside dining, plenty of hotels and a straight shot into the city — and the pop-up slots neatly into a longer itinerary that might include hawker centres, Gardens by the Bay and the rest of the city's October calendar.
