Silves, the old Moorish capital of the Algarve, has quietly built one of Portugal's most likeable cultural events: jazz concerts staged not in concert halls but inside working wineries. Jazz nas Adegas (Jazz in the Wineries) returns for its tenth edition in November 2026, running right through to May 2027 and pairing live bands with wine tastings, tapas and tours at a dozen-plus estates across the municipality.

The season opens on 6-7 November at Quinta João Clara in Alcantarilha with the Feel Good Band, then rolls monthly through venues that double as a who's-who of Silves wine: Cabrita Wines, Quinta do Francês, Paxa Wines and Barranco Longo, plus smaller producers and a few curveballs like the Convento do Paraíso, where Funky Noise closes the programme on 21-22 May 2027.

A ticket costs €35 and, frankly, it's a lot of ticket. It covers the concert, wine tastings, tapas and a bottle of wine to take home, plus a voucher for Silves Castle and the Municipal Archaeology Museum — so you can turn an evening gig into a full day out in one of the Algarve's most historic towns. Note it's strictly over-18s.

The line-up is mostly Portuguese acts worth knowing: Low Tech Groove at Cabrita Wines (27-28 November), Scooby 4 Tet at Quinta do Francês in early December, Marta Santa Maria Trio at Patuá Wine in May, and the Jaime Almeida Trio at Quinta do Rogel among them. One edition quirk: the February dates move to Dito Cujo, Casa Islâmica in Silves town, with the Silves Filarmónica Combo — a reminder that this isn't only a vineyard affair.

Tickets for the opening sessions go on sale at 4pm on Thursday, 22 October via BOL and in person at FNAC, Worten, El Corte Inglés, CTT, Pousadas da Juventude and Serveasy kiosks. Popular weekends sell, so book early if you have a specific winery in mind.

Why it matters for travellers: winter in the Algarve is mild, uncrowded and often overlooked, and this festival is a ready-made reason to visit outside beach season. You get small-venue jazz, a working snapshot of the region's growing wine scene, and a castle-and-museum voucher thrown in — an easy, sociable weekend format whether you're based in Silves itself or day-tripping from the coast.
