The humble advent calendar has gone seriously upscale. The 2026 season brings everything from 45-year-old single malts behind wax-sealed vials to porcelain collectibles and beauty hauls worth more than £1,300 — and if you want one, you'll need to move fast. Sales kicked off as early as August this year, with waitlists opening over the summer and some editions already gone.
For beauty lovers, Liberty of London leads the pack: its 2026 calendar holds 29 products (21 full-size) worth over £1,300, making it the retailer's most valuable yet — and it has sold out 11 years running. There's also a hidden Golden Ticket worth £1,000. Selfridges counters with 40 products behind 25 doors (33 full-size), including Augustinus Bader, Dr. Barbara Sturm and Jo Malone London, valued above $1,700, while Harrods packs in 32 items from Charlotte Tilbury, Nars and Medik8.
Drinks by the Dram takes the crown for drama: 24 rare whiskies in 30ml samples, including Dalmore 45 Year Old 1966, The Balvenie 40 Year Old and a Yamazaki 18 Mizunara, housed in a black oak and walnut cabinet with suede linings, tasting notes and two Riedel glasses. On the fragrance side, Penhaligon's offers 24 scents and treats in boxes styled as vintage travel trunks, and Sisley Paris has teamed with artist Marie-Victoire de Bascher for a 25-product calendar illustrated as Paris in bloom.
Food and gifting get look in too. Daylesford's Farmshop calendar delivers 25 drawers of truffles, Oxfordshire honey and Christmas tea in a refillable wooden case, while Fortnum & Mason sells two empty wooden calendars — one shaped like its Piccadilly store — for you to fill yourself. Families might fancy Byers' Choice's musical toy-shop calendar, which plays 12 carols, and Villeroy & Boch has a porcelain edition with calendar-exclusive pieces.
The craziest number of all: a one-off calendar by British designer Debbie Wingham, valued at roughly $10.3 million, built in 2021 for a Swiss family's year of travel, with diamond-encrusted gifts and luxury luggage behind reclaimed ebony doors.
Why it matters: these calendars sell out months before December, so a great one is both a gift and a race against the clock. Beauty fans should target Liberty, Selfridges or Harrods; whisky collectors need Drinks by the Dram; and anyone after a keepsake should look at Daylesford or Fortnum's refillable wooden designs. Order by early autumn or plan for next year.
