Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the world's largest independent hotel brand, has grown its top-tier Legend Collection by 11 hotels and resorts, pushing the flagship tier past 125 properties worldwide. The 2026 intake spans Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and it doubles as a useful snapshot of where luxury travel is heading: heritage buildings, forest retreats, personal city stays and big, destination-defining resorts.
The heritage angle is the strongest thread. In Fès, Morocco, the Palais Jamaï reopens in October 2026 inside a restored late 19th-century palace overlooking the medina. Seville gained the Serras Sevilla in September 2026, right in the thick of the city's Andalusian architecture and food scene. Bangkok's Dusit Thani, a landmark for more than 70 years, brings Thai design and rituals to the list, while Lisbon's MYTHIC SANA Downtown Suites sits in the historic Baixa district and offers a quirky 'Golden Sleeps' butler service covering everything from in-room cocktails to bath rituals. San Clemente Palace Venice rounds out the European additions — it occupies its own island in the lagoon, so you get resort privacy with Venice on the boat ride.
Spain does especially well, adding three hotels: BLESS Hotel Barcelona on Passeig de Gràcia, BLESS Ibiza The Site, and the Seville property. Further afield, The Cooper arrived in Charleston, South Carolina in March 2026 with waterfront views and a Southern take on luxury, and Edgewood Tahoe Resort joined from the Nevada shore of Lake Tahoe, complete with LEED Silver certification.
Nature-led luxury shows up in India. The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary, which opened in July 2026 near Madikeri, sits on 76 acres of ancient forest in the Western Ghats, a region known for coffee country, biodiversity and a slower pace. It's the clearest sign of the regenerative travel trend the brand says its own Luxury Travel Report backs up.
The biggest debut is still to come: Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, launching in spring 2027. A 70-storey tower with more than 1,500 rooms, over 20 restaurants, a beach club, private marina and pools — the first fully integrated Wynn-style resort in the Emirates, and a marker of how much the UAE's northern emirate is investing in tourism.
For travellers, the practical takeaway is booking leverage. Legend status means each property has passed Preferred's quality vetting at the brand's highest level, and points or preferred rates across the group can now be used at an unusual spread of places — a lagoon island in Venice, a medina-view palace in Fès, a forest lodge in Coorg — within one portfolio. If your travel style leans cultural or nature-first rather than generic five-star, this year's list is worth a scan. Details via Breaking Travel News.
