A very large number of tickets just got the green light in Costa Rica: 53,114 of them, for a rumoured Shakira show at the National Stadium in La Sabana, San José, pencilled in for Sunday 31 January 2027 at 8 p.m. The country's Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC) approved the presale plan filed by producer Two Shows S.R.L., with Eticket named as the only authorised sales platform.
Here's the catch, and it's a big one: approval of a presale plan is not a concert confirmation. MEIC's sign-off covers the commercial terms of selling tickets in advance — a consumer-protection step, since fans pay before anything is guaranteed. The artist and the production company still need to formally announce the show. Costa Ricans know this dance: in September 2024 the ministry authorised 51,446 tickets for a Shakira date at the same stadium in March 2025, and that concert never materialised. She hasn't played Costa Rica since April 2011.
If the show does go ahead, it slots into her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour 2027, named for her 2024 album — her first studio record in seven years. That tour opened in Rio de Janeiro on 11 February 2025 and has been rolling through Latin America since.
The wider context is worth noting for anyone planning a trip around live music in Costa Rica. Days before this news, a Beéle concert was scrapped just hours before showtime after authorities denied its permit — proof that even late-stage plans can collapse here. Ticket prices, seating sections and on-sale dates for the possible Shakira date haven't been released. MEIC's latest round of approvals also covered upcoming presales for Fonseca, Miguel Mateos and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, so San José's concert calendar looks busy either way.
Why should a traveller care? If Shakira is the reason you'd fly to Central America, hold your horses: wait for an official announcement from the artist or Two Shows S.R.L., and when tickets do go live, buy only through Eticket, the sole authorised platform under the approved plan. Anyone buying from resellers before confirmation is taking a real risk — as the 2025 non-event showed.
That said, San José is a rewarding base whether or not the show happens. The National Stadium sits in La Sabana Metropolitan Park, the city's green lung, easy to reach from downtown hotels. If you're flying in for a concert weekend, you can pair it with the capital's museums and coffee tours, then push on to volcán Poás, the cloud forests of Monteverde, or the Pacific beaches a few hours away. Late January is peak dry season on the Pacific side, so it's a fine time to be in the country regardless.
The bottom line: the paperwork exists, the stadium is booked into the plan, and more than 53,000 seats could go on sale — but until Shakira's camp says the word, treat it as a possibility, not a plan.
