A new film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as the Dashwood sisters, has just added to the long list of screen Austen — and with it, a fresh excuse for a set-jetting trip around Britain and Ireland. The good news for fans: many of the mansions, cottages and estates that have doubled as Pemberley, Barton Cottage and Hartfield over the years take overnight guests.

For the 2026 Sense and Sensibility, producers used Kingston Russell House in Dorset, a 17th-century mansion near the Jurassic Coast. It's privately owned, but you can rent the two-bedroom south guest wing on Airbnb — think wood-burning fireplace, William Morris wallpaper and six acres of formal gardens. Fans of the 1995 Oscar-winner can instead book Efford House on Devon's 5,000-acre Flete Estate, which stood in for Barton Cottage, sleeps 13 and welcomes dogs; the new King Charles III England Coast Path runs right through the grounds. A third Barton Cottage, the 15th-century Blackpool Mill Cottage on the Hartland Abbey estate in North Devon (also seen in The Night Manager), sleeps eight just 75 yards from a surf-friendly stretch of Atlantic.

Pride and Prejudice offers the richest pickings. Stourhead in Wiltshire, where Darcy proposes to Lizzie in the 1765 Temple of Apollo, has a National Trust cottage sleeping seven at the estate entrance. Chatsworth House in Derbyshire — widely thought to have inspired Pemberley — can't be slept in, but Chatsworth Escapes rents cottages, shepherd's huts and even a 1580s Hunting Tower on the surrounding 1,000 acres. At Lyme Park in Cheshire, location of Colin Firth's infamous wet-shirt pond scene, two dog-friendly Edwardian cottages sleep four each; you can walk to the pond, but swimming is now off-limits.

Further flung options include Peacock Cottage at Elizabethan Kirby Hall in Northamptonshire (Mansfield Park, 1999), where guests can roam the ruins after hours, and three restored 18th-century cottages on the Newby Hall estate in North Yorkshire, a Christopher Wren-designed house used in the 2007 Mansfield Park with Billie Piper. For Emma (2020), 500-year-old Firle Place in East Sussex — set on 7,000 South Downs acres, hung with Van Dycks and Gainsboroughs — can be rented whole for events, or you can go budget with a Shepherd's Cottage on Airbnb or open-fire 'gastro-camping' at Woodfire at Chapel Field.

Two outliers round out the list: Lismore Castle in County Waterford, Ireland, which stood in for Northanger Abbey in 2007 and sleeps 27 across 15 bedrooms for special occasions (or stay at the nearby 10-room Ballyrafter B&B), and Trafalgar Park in Wiltshire, the Elliot family home in Netflix's 2022 Persuasion, with three holiday cottages sleeping four to eight.

It's a genuinely varied itinerary — Devon coast walks, Peak District moorland, Wiltshire gardens — rather than a single hotel review, and it suits anyone planning a literary pilgrimage, an Austen-themed group trip or simply a very grand weekend away. Book early for summer: several of these cottages sleep fewer than eight.
