Switzerland has plenty to celebrate in this year's readers' choice ranking of Europe's best ski resorts. Verbier takes the top spot with a score of 97.02, and it isn't alone — Swiss resorts claim six of the twenty places, more than any other country. Courchevel in France comes second at 95.48, with another Swiss entry, Crans-Montana, rounding out the top three on 94.79.

The Swiss contingent is stacked with household names. Gstaad (92.68) and the Flims Laax Falera area (92.34) both crack the top five, while glamour staples St. Moritz (89.43), Zermatt (86.58) and the up-and-comer Andermatt (74.34) appear further down. That's a strong showing for a country that already dominates most alpine rankings.

France puts up five resorts, led by Courchevel and Chamonix-Mont Blanc (91.69). Val Thorens (89.36) — the highest ski resort in Europe — Megève (89.08) and Alpe d'Huez (87.40) complete the French line-up. Italy manages six entries, the most of any nation by count, though most sit in the bottom half: Corvara in the Alta Badia leads the way at 91.89, followed by Livigno, Abetone, Courmayeur Mont Blanc, and Breuil-Cervinia. Austria lands two big names, Lech (90.07) and Kitzbühel (88.93).

The wildcard on the list is Gudauri in Georgia, scoring 71.67 and sitting 20th. It's the only entry outside the Alps, and a nudge for anyone after cheaper lift passes and empty slopes — Georgia's Caucasus skiing has been quietly building a reputation for years.

Why does a readers' poll matter for trip planning? Because it reflects how resorts actually feel on the ground — lift queues, food, village atmosphere — rather than just piste kilometres. If you want the consensus pick, Verbier's your answer. Want a couple of ideas for using it: pair Courchevel with the wider Three Valleys for sheer scale, choose Corvara if you'd rather ski Italy's Sellaronda circuit in peace, or swap a pricey Swiss week for Livigno, which has long been a duty-free bargain. And for a genuinely different trip, Gudauri proves you don't need an alpine postcode for serious freeriding.

Whichever you pick, the 2026 list is a handy shortlist: every resort on it has earned a thumbs-up from thousands of fellow travellers, so you're unlikely to go wrong.
