The new film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling thriller 'Verity' stars Anne Hathaway as the title character and Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to ghostwrite for the injured author. The story moves Lowen from New York City to a secluded family home in rural Vermont — but the movie was shot almost entirely in and around New York, and many of the spots are ones travellers can actually visit.
The standout location is the Crawford family home, supposedly in Vermont. Location manager Elizabeth Krekel and production designer Amy Williams skipped Vermont entirely and landed on the Beckoning Path house in Armonk, Westchester County — a sprawling modern property built by Danish sculptor Jens Quinsgaard that operates as a private wellness retreat, complete with a swimming pool, tai chi studio and its own lake. Its angular architecture and V-shaped windows (V for Verity) sold the crew instantly, and the owner let them add walls and bookshelves to make it read as an author's home. Lowen's creepy office was built on a sound stage, designed with input from director Michael Showalter and Hathaway herself — pink, glamorous and lined with mirrors that open into hidden bookcases.
Back in the city, the film leans on recognisable spots. Lowen's bookshop reading was shot at Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, a beloved independent store where you can pick up Hoover's actual novels. The unsettling meet-cute between Lowen and Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) happens where Park Avenue meets East 41st Street, a block from Grand Central — the crew chose one of Midtown's busiest corners and promptly drew paparazzi. The Hachette Book Group office scene was filmed at Hoover's real publisher, and Hoover cameos as the receptionist.
Queens gets its moment too. The restaurant where Lowen dines with her agent is Rolo's in Ridgewood, known for wood-fired polenta bread and homemade pasta. Lowen's birthday dinner unfolds at Zum Stammtisch, a historic Bavarian pub in Glendale that swapped the book's Italian setting for German fare — the crew ate there more than once, and Williams recommends the pretzels. And a flashback to Verity and Jeremy's first meeting takes place at Laissez Faire, the high-end cocktail lounge in the historic Beekman Hotel in the Financial District, complete with a back-alley exit for dramatic getaways.
For fans planning a themed weekend, it's an easy itinerary: start with coffee and Hoover paperbacks in Carroll Gardens, walk Midtown's crash intersection near Grand Central, book dinner at Rolo's or Zum Stammtisch, and finish with cocktails at the Beekman. The Beckoning Path retreat is private, so the villain's lair stays off the menu — but the rest makes a fun self-guided tour through Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. Bonus: the cast and crew shot across several seasons, so you can chase the film's wintry mood or its summery canoe scene depending on when you go.
