Pool points with a partner or friend and that dream Hyatt redemption suddenly gets a lot closer. World of Hyatt has quietly become one of the most generous hotel programs when it comes to moving points between accounts — and the whole thing now happens online, at no cost.

The basics: members can transfer points to any other member at a 1:1 ratio. The minimum transfer is 1,000 points, in 500-point increments above that, and you can move up to 525,000 points in a single transaction. Across a calendar year, you can send or receive up to 525,000 points. There's a small catch — both accounts need to be at least 60 days old, and each member is limited to one free transfer per calendar month and six per year.

Timing varies. Small transfers often land within minutes; bigger ones can take days and, in some cases, up to 10 business days if they need extra review. If you're coordinating an award booking, start the transfer well before you plan to hit the book button.

Notably, you're not restricted to family or same-household members. Anyone with a Hyatt account can receive your points — bartering or selling them is against the rules, but pooling with friends for a group trip is fair game. That's a big shift from the old system, which required a paper form, took days, and only allowed combining points to fund one specific redemption.

Why bother? The obvious use is topping up an account to reach an award night — say two people each holding 15,000 points combining to book a 30,000-point stay. But there are smarter plays too. Booking through the account of a traveller with Globalist or Explorist status unlocks their elite benefits for everyone on the reservation. Hyatt's Guest of Honor program and transferable Suite Upgrade Awards and Club Access Awards make it even easier to share perks. And if your points are drifting towards expiry, a transfer counts as account activity and resets the clock.

For anyone travelling as a couple, a family or a group of friends, this makes Hyatt points considerably more flexible than most rival programs — Hilton Honors is the only policy that really matches it. If you've been sitting on a stash that's just short of a redemption, or want to route a booking through the most valuable status, there's no longer a paperwork hurdle in the way. Just head to your account overview, find the 'Gift points or eligible awards' section, pick your amount, enter the recipient's details and confirm.

One planning note: given the six-transfers-per-year cap, don't leave splitting a big points balance to the last minute, and remember larger transfers can take several days to clear.
