Hotel points just got more useful for holiday rentals. Wyndham has launched Homes & Havens, a curated collection of nearly 800 professionally managed homes and villas that can be booked through Wyndham Rewards, the loyalty scheme the company says counts around 129 million members.

The collection spans the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, and Wyndham says hundreds more properties will be added in the coming months. The homes come via new partnerships with independent property managers and hospitality firms, including Brightwild, Simpson Travel, StayTerra and Thousand Trails. Some partners are already live; others will follow over the next few months.

The move is widely read as a direct challenge to Marriott, which has operated its own homes-and-villas offering under its Bonvoy loyalty program for several years. The competition between big hotel groups and their credit card partners for vacation rental bookings has been heating up, with each side trying to convince travellers that they can earn and redeem hotel points on whole homes as easily as on standard hotel rooms.

For holidaymakers, the practical draw is straightforward: instead of choosing between a rental's space and a hotel program's perks, you can put a villa or house stay into the same points ecosystem you already use. The emphasis on professionally managed properties is also aimed at a common rental pain point — consistency and vetting — since each home is handled by an established property management partner rather than an individual host.

Whether this reshapes how you book depends on where you like to travel. With the initial footprint concentrated in North America, the Caribbean and Europe, families heading to a Mexican beach villa or a European holiday home are the obvious early users. It's also worth noting that loyalty members often find sweet spots when a program launches a new category, as promotional earn rates and intro offers tend to follow.
