Aman has confirmed plans for its first South Korean property, and the location is about as central as it gets. Aman Seoul will rise in Cheongdam, the luxury retail and design heart of Gangnam, with views over the Han River. The project is a partnership between Aman Group and Shinsegae Property, the development arm of the Korean retail giant.
This won't be a hotel alone. Like Aman's recent urban projects, it's conceived as an integrated lifestyle destination: a hotel, a small collection of branded residences, and a global Aman Club, each with its own entrance and arrival sequence to keep the privacy levels the brand is famous for. The club itself gets a dedicated pool, fitness facilities and social spaces for members and residence owners.
Wellbeing sits at the core of the concept, with spa and wellness facilities spread across multiple floors. There's also a global food and drink programme built around Aman's own dining concepts. On the design side, Aman says the architecture and minimalist interiors draw on Korean spatial traditions and materials, working with local craftspeople, the same blend of heritage and modernity the brand brought to Aman Tokyo.
The timing is no accident. Aman's chairman and CEO Vlad Doronin framed Seoul as one of the fastest-evolving cities in the world, a hub for fashion, beauty, design, technology and wellness that now exports its lifestyle influence well beyond Korea. Shinsegae chairman Chung Yong-jin called the project a new milestone for high-end lifestyle in the capital rather than a conventional hotel development.
For Aman watchers, the Seoul property slots into a deliberate city strategy. It follows Aman Tokyo, Aman New York and Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, and lines up with announced projects in Beverly Hills, Miami Beach, Dubai and Singapore. The brand is clearly betting that its next generation of loyalists want urban sanctuaries, not just remote resorts.
What does this mean for travellers? Openings this ambitious take years, so don't plan a Gangnam stay around it yet. But it signals where ultra-luxury travel in Asia is heading, and it puts Cheongdam, already home to flagship stores, galleries and some of Seoul's best fine dining, firmly on the map for high-end visitors. If Korea is on your list sooner, Seoul's existing five-star scene is strong, and the city's culture, food and design credentials have never been higher. Aman Seoul just gives them a very quiet, very private new address to wait for.
