Amex Offers, the add-on deals program attached to American Express cards, has quietly rolled out a targeted promotion with Amazon, and depending on which version lands in your account, it's one of the more generous non-travel offers we've seen in a while.
There are two main flavours. The first gives you 500 Membership Rewards points each time you spend $50 at Amazon, and it can trigger up to three times — that's 1,500 points on $150 of spending. The second is bigger: 1,200 points for every $150 spent, also up to three times, netting you 3,600 points once you've laid out $450. Both versions run on purchases made through December 5, 2026. Some cardholders may see a statement credit variant instead, though points versions of Amex Offers usually come out ahead in value.
Why the excitement? Valuing Membership Rewards points at roughly 1.7 cents each — a common estimate given their transferability to airline and hotel programs — the $50 offer effectively returns 17% on your spending, while the $150 version works out to about 13.6%. And that's on top of whatever base rewards your card already earns on the purchase. For anyone who buys household staples, gifts or travel gear through Amazon anyway, it's about as close to free money as these programs get.
A few exclusions to keep in mind. The offer applies only to purchases on Amazon's US website or mobile app with the enrolled card. Corporate gift cards, custom-designed gift cards, Prime memberships and auto-renewing subscriptions don't count. Reloads of your Amazon balance, however, have historically qualified — a handy workaround if you'd rather bank the credit for future purchases, including any travel bookings made through Amazon.
It's also worth remembering that Amex lets you redeem a single Membership Rewards point to knock a dollar off an Amazon purchase. That's a poor value compared to transferring points to airlines, but if you have a small orphan balance of points you'll never use, it's a painless way to put them to work alongside this offer.
Since Amex Offers are targeted, the first move is logging into your account (or the Amex app) and checking your available offers — if the Amazon deal is there, enrol the card before you shop. There's no cost and no reason not to if you were going to buy something anyway.
