Willemstad has a new reason to book Curaçao: Art Hotel Curaçao, a 30-room, adults-only boutique hotel in the Pietermaai district that opened in 2025 and has already been flagged as one of the Caribbean's most interesting hotel debuts for 2026. Its selling points are unusually concrete: an infinity pool that stares straight at the Caribbean Sea, a pier with daybeds, and original art commissioned for every single room.

The building was designed by Curaçao architect Cas Aalbers, with interiors by Studio Piet Boon. Artist Ellen Spijkstra was commissioned to create pieces for all 30 rooms, the lobby and the two penthouses, while Zanolino Gallery curates additional works for the shared spaces. The rooms themselves are deliberately pared back so the art does the talking — and it gives you something to track down from check-in onwards. Room categories worth comparing: Oceanfront and Oceanfront Deluxe if you plan to linger, or the Deluxe City-Suite if you'd rather have suite space on the town side.

The waterfront setup is the other hook. Daybeds on the pier, drinks and snacks from the Lemon Beach Bar, and a pool that needs no justification — the hotel is small enough that the sea-facing area stays usable even if you're out exploring most of the day. The rhythm Caribbean Journal suggests is a good one: lunch in town, a swim in the afternoon, then decide where to eat over a drink.

Location does a lot of work here. Pietermaai is one of Willemstad's most atmospheric neighbourhoods, a grid of restored old houses where you can walk from restaurant to restaurant on Kaya Wilson (Papa) Godett street. From the hotel, it's a short walk to the floating Queen Emma Bridge and across to Otrobanda, with Punda's harbour on the way. You're in the city without giving up an afternoon by the sea.

Food-wise, the hotel's restaurant, The Lemon Tree, runs a five-course chef's menu built on Curaçao's culinary heritage with ingredients from local growers. Treat it as one evening's plan; spend another grazing through Pietermaai's menus.

For a three-night stay, the suggested shape is: keep arrival afternoon free for the pool and pier, dedicate a day to Willemstad on foot (Punda and Otrobanda, stopping wherever looks good), and use the third day to drive west to Curaçao's beaches — the island's two sides in one trip, with a night back in Pietermaai after each.

Who is this for? Design-minded couples and solo travellers who want an adults-only base with a serious waterfront, plus easy access to a walkable, restaurant-heavy neighbourhood. If you book hotels as much for what's on the walls as for what's outside the window, this one ticks both.
