If a big-bus coach tour sounds like your idea of holiday hell, Back-Roads Touring has just made its small-group trips a lot more tempting. The operator has knocked AUD$300 per person off selected 2027 UK and Europe departures, and if you've travelled with them before, the discount stacks with loyalty savings — up to $650 per person in total.
The catch is timing. The 'Don't Just Visit…' sale runs only from 7 October to 18 November 2026, covering tours across next year. Three headline departures give a sense of what's on the table: a 13-day Italian Indulgence route from Rome to Venice from $7,329pp twin-share (departing 29 March 2027), a 13-day Emerald Isle loop from Dublin from $7,099pp (29 September 2027), and a 12-day Iberian Inspiration run from Madrid to Lisbon from $6,609pp (23 October, 2 or 6 November 2027).
What sets Back-Roads apart, the company argues, is that small-group travel isn't a product line bolted onto a bigger operation — it's all they've done for 40 years. Groups cap at 18 guests travelling by luxury minicoach, which means routes, hotels and restaurants can be chosen for character rather than coach-parking capacity. That translates into family-run restaurants a 50-seat group could never squeeze into, and detours like a Cornish cream tea at Britain's first tea plantation, a Spanish cooking class in Pamplona, or a cheese tasting in a French Alpine fromagerie.
Tour Leaders are locals rather than drivers-with-a-script, and the itineraries lean towards slow travel: later starts, longer stays and genuine free time instead of a checklist of photo stops. It's a style that suits travellers who want the logistics handled but the experience to feel personal — and it's clearly working, with a strong base of repeat Australian and New Zealand guests who often link two tours to cover both the UK and continental Europe in one trip.
The booking terms are unusually flexible. A deposit secures your seat, with full payment due just 60 days before departure. If you need to cancel, Back-Roads holds your deposit as credit towards another tour and refunds anything beyond it, and you can change dates or swap tours unlimited times at no fee up to 60 days out.
For returning guests, the maths gets interesting: $250 off per tour for past travellers, plus multi-tour bonuses ranging from $150 per tour (two tours booked) up to $350 per tour (six or more). Combined with the $300 sale discount, that's the full $650 saving per person, per tour.
If a 2027 European trip is on your radar, booking through a travel advisor before 18 November 2026 locks in the price — and given the sale window closes a full year before most departures, there's plenty of time to plan around it.
