Drumheller's rugged badlands are getting a burst of colour this autumn. Badlands LightFest is back at the Badlands Amphitheatre on Saturday, November 14, 2026, promising a choreographed pyromusical fireworks display put together with GlobalFest, the Calgary organization known for its international fireworks competitions.

The venue itself is half the appeal. The Badlands Amphitheatre is a 2,500-seat outdoor site spread over 400 acres of Alberta's most dramatic eroded terrain, roughly 90 minutes northeast of Calgary and about three hours from Edmonton. Watching fireworks explode over hoodoos and moon-like canyon walls is a very different experience from a city show.

The evening runs from 6 to 8 p.m., with parking gates opening at 6, live entertainment — including Jacquie Daniels and her band, plus Indigenous performances — starting at 6:30, and the fireworks kicking off at 7:30. You'll be handed free hot chocolate and cookies on arrival, which matters in November. If you want a pre-show drink, the Studio Aurora Bar upstairs at the Badlands Art Centre opens 6 to 7:15 p.m. and reopens for an hour after the show. It's an 18-plus space pouring beer from Valley Brewing and spirits from Drum Distilling, but seats are limited, so book ahead.

Tickets are affordable: $17 for adults, $12 for ages 10 to 17 and $7 for kids three to nine, before fees. Anyone driving needs a parking pass too — $8 per vehicle in advance or $10 at the gate. Seating is first come, first served, so turning up early is the way to bag a good spot. Both tickets and parking go through the Badlands Amphitheatre website.

For travellers, this is a good excuse to build a weekend around Drumheller beyond the show itself. The town is home to the Royal Tyrrell Museum, one of the world's best dinosaur museums, and the surrounding Dinosaur Provincial Park country is well worth a day of driving and short hikes. November is shoulder season, so accommodation is cheap and attractions are quiet — just pack for cold nights. If you're flying in, Calgary is the logical gateway, and the drive out through the prairie into the badlands is a scenic reward in itself.
