Christmas in Bangkok usually means twinkling lights and familiar carols, but one of the city's biggest lifestyle hubs has decided to plug in the electric guitars instead. True Digital Park, on Sukhumvit 101 next to BTS Punnawithi station, is hosting its first-ever rock-themed festive season under the banner "Jingle Bell Rock", running until 5 January.

The idea is simple: swap sleigh bells for power chords. The whole complex has been reimagined as a kind of mini music festival, with light and sound installations built to make everything from a shopping trip to a family dinner feel more like a backstage pass. The look comes from pop art illustrator Suthathip Uapsuk, better known as Bomfha, whose energetic contemporary works now decorate the property.

The campaign kicked off with an opening party at 6pm featuring a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and a performance attended by executives, celebrities and invited guests. The centrepiece for visitors is the Rockin' Christmas Tree in the Hillside area, one of several installations scattered around the site. If you'd rather join in than just look, there are holiday-themed karaoke rooms under the Sing The Holiday Rockin' banner, plus curated playlists available as Rockin' Jingle Beat.

There's a retail side, naturally. Shoppers who rack up the highest accumulated spending across the campaign period will win a foldable Samsung smartphone, and festive privileges and rewards are on offer throughout.

Two events in late December give the campaign its peak moments. From 16 to 25 December, the Jingle Rockin' Gift festival runs for ten days, letting shoppers take a turn on a giant Gashapon machine in exchange for limited-edition merchandise. Then on 24 and 25 December, the Carol x Rock & Christmas Parade brings live rock-infused carols and a Santa Rock parade distributing treats around the shopping centre.

Why bother? For travellers in Bangkok over the holidays, it's a genuinely different take on the season — festive enough for families, loud enough for anyone bored of muzak versions of Wham!. The location is easy to reach on the BTS Sukhumvit line, so it pairs neatly with an afternoon exploring the eastern side of the city, well away from the usual Siam-centred festive circuit. And since it runs until early January, it works even if your trip lands after Christmas itself.
