A quiet perk is sitting inside Bank of America's rewards programme: customers in the bank's top wealth tiers can get GHA Discovery Titanium status without a single hotel night. The news surfaced on the November 6 Frequent Miler on Air podcast, where Greg Davis-Kean revealed he'd activated it himself and saw the upgrade land instantly, valid through 31 December 2027.

The catch is the banking relationship. Preferred Honors requires an eligible checking account plus a three-month average balance of at least $100,000 across Bank of America deposits or Merrill investments - Merrill money counts, so it doesn't have to sit in cash. Premier generally starts at $1 million, though Bank of America Private Bank clients qualify regardless of balance. It's tied to the tier, not a specific card. Eligible members should look under the Rewards tab in online banking or MyMerrill for lifestyle benefits, then find the GHA Discovery travel offer and use the activation link.

So what's Titanium worth? GHA Discovery spans roughly 1,000 hotels across about 60 brands - Kempinski, Anantara, Capella, Pan Pacific, NH and Lore Group among them. Titanium is the highest published tier, normally requiring 30 nights, $15,000 in spend, or stays at three different brands in a year. Matched members get a two-category upgrade that can stretch to a suite, early check-in from 11 a.m., late checkout at 4 p.m., a welcome amenity, and 7% back in Discovery Dollars on eligible spend. Breakfast for two on direct bookings is expanding but isn't universal yet - Capella, Lore Group and Anantara participate.

The status stacks well with premium booking channels. Frequent Miler's writers describe combining GHA Titanium with Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts at the Kempinski Cancun for an oceanfront suite with club access, and with Chase's The Edit at Riggs in Washington, D.C., landing the former bank boardroom as a suite. One guest at Augustine Prague layered an FHR upgrade with Titanium's double upgrade and walked into a historic Treasury suite, banking D$75 along the way.

No $100,000 lying around? GHA runs one of the more generous paid status matches in hospitality, available until 30 November 2026. Titanium costs $150 (with D$75 back, so a net $75 if you'll use them) and Platinum $100 with D$50. Qualifying status includes Hilton Diamond, Hyatt Globalist, Marriott Platinum and above, and IHG Platinum and above. Alternatively, three one-night stays at three different GHA brands is an easy DIY route in well-served cities. Two limits worth knowing: matched Titanium can't be gifted to someone else (that requires earning it the normal way), and club lounge access isn't guaranteed.

For anyone with serious balances at Bank of America or Merrill, this is free upside - check the app before your next stay at an NH, Anantara or Kempinski property.
