If you carry a Capital One credit card and you're not checking Capital One Offers before you shop, you're probably leaving rewards on the table. The programme works a lot like Amex Offers and Chase Offers: eligible cardholders get access to deals at participating merchants across clothing, electronics, home goods and travel, and the extra rewards stack on top of whatever points or miles your card already earns.

Who gets it? U.S. consumer cardholders, including people with cards in the Venture, Savor and Quicksilver families. Business cards don't qualify, and eligibility varies account to account — so the only way to know what you've been offered is to sign in. You'll find the section on your account dashboard online, or under the shopping offers area of the mobile app.

Redeeming isn't automatic. You need to select the deal and follow its instructions. Online, that means activating the offer and clicking through to the retailer via Capital One's link — the tracking is how the purchase gets matched to the deal. In-store, you activate first, then pay with the same card before the offer expires. One classic gotcha: an online offer won't necessarily cover an in-store purchase, or vice versa, so confirm which locations and payment methods qualify.

Rewards usually land within about 45 days, though some take up to three billing cycles. Hotel offers pay out only after you complete your stay, and the reservation has to be completed within a year of booking. You can monitor everything under "Shopping Trips" in the offers menu, and it's smart to keep order confirmations in case a payout runs late.

A few tactical tips worth adopting. First, compare before you commit: a 5% back deal through Capital One might be beaten by a better rate on another shopping portal, and you generally can't stack the two — using a rival portal or certain coupon codes could invalidate your reward entirely. Decide which route pays more before you check out. Second, read the terms. Offers can carry spending minimums, expiry dates, single-transaction limits and exclusions on gift cards, taxes, shipping and fees. Third, for travel bookings specifically, weigh the total price and cancellation conditions, not just the advertised bonus.

Don't confuse this with Capital One Shopping, by the way — that's a separate browser tool for coupon codes and price tracking, not the card-linked offers programme.

Why does this matter for travellers? Hotel and travel deals show up regularly, and because offers stack with your card's base earning rate, they're effectively free miles on spending you were making anyway. The habit takes seconds: before any online checkout, open your Capital One app, scan the offers list, search for the merchant, and only then decide how to pay. Do that consistently and the small bonuses add up — especially if you're saving miles for a big redemption. Just remember that offers differ between accounts, so a deal a friend raves about may never appear in yours.
