A slice of Delhi's cocktail scene is heading to the Indian Ocean. JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll Island Resort has lined up a three-night bar takeover with RED Bar, the Vasant Vhäng-based venue that made the 2025 list of India's 30 Best Bars. Running from 25 to 27 November 2026, the event is titled The Craft of the Cocktail and will be led by mixologist Virender Singh, who has eight years in beverage creation and a reputation for bold flavour pairings and experimental technique.

The format is simple but smart: one venue per night, each with a different island mood. Night one lands at Nikkei Bar, the resort's overwater bar, where Singh will pour signature drinks with the ocean as a backdrop. Night two moves to JW Garden for a garden-to-glass session built around fresh ingredients and tropical flavours picked close to where they're served. The finale takes over Wahoo Bar, putting the closing round of cocktails barefoot on the beachfront.

RED Bar isn't an unknown quantity on the international circuit — the team has done guest shifts and takeovers abroad before, so this is a venue used to translating its style to new rooms. The resort's food and beverage director, Arup Chakraborty, framed the collaboration as part of a broader push to fly international culinary and drinks talent into the Maldives rather than waiting for guests to seek it out elsewhere.

That push is clearly gathering pace across the country. In the same stretch of the calendar, Milaidhoo in Baa Atoll has chef residencies lined up with Laurence Tan of Singapore's Michelin-starred JAG (a cooking class on 16 October, then a 16-seat five-course dinner the following night featuring the likes of Hiramasa crudo, lobster ravioli and Tajima Wagyu MB8 with black truffle), plus a December visit from chef James Knight-Paccheco, a Raymond Blanc and Gordon Ramsay alumnus whose podcast has pulled in over 6.5 million downloads. Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, meanwhile, is hosting South Africa's Glenelly Estate across RAAYA and VARU from 4 to 10 December 2026 — six wine events marking the group's 117th wine occasion in the Maldives, free for guests on the RAAYA and VARU plans with a reservation.

For travellers, this is a shift worth noting when picking a Maldives resort. The classic pitch — overwater villa, white sand, good buffet — is now standard; what separates properties is the calendar. If you time a stay to a takeover or residency, you get a city-calibre bar or tasting-menu experience included in an island holiday, without a separate flight or booking. Book your dates around the event rather than hoping to squeeze in once you arrive, since the best evenings (especially anything capped at 16 covers) fill fast.

Details, dates confirmed so far: JW Marriott Maldives Kaafu Atoll's RED Bar takeover runs 25–27 November 2026 across Nikkei Bar, JW Garden and Wahoo Bar, with Virender Singh behind the stick each evening.
