If a free-ish Hilton stay has been on your wish list, the current lineup of Hilton Honors American Express welcome offers is worth a look. Four cards are carrying boosted sign-up bonuses, all running until 13 January 2027, and the flagship Aspire card is at its highest-ever offer: 200,000 bonus points after spending $6,000 in the first six months. The Points Guy values Hilton points at 0.4 cents each, putting that bonus alone at around $800 — enough for several nights at mainstream properties or a serious dent in a luxury award stay.
The other three cards are no slouches either. The Hilton Honors Business card pays 150,000 points plus a free night reward after $8,000 of spend; the mid-tier Surpass gives 130,000 points and a free night after just $3,000; and the no-annual-fee base card offers 70,000 points plus a free night after $2,000. Note the pattern: the smaller-spend offers bundle in a free night reward, which can be redeemed for a standard room regardless of its point cost — potentially worth hundreds of dollars at pricier resorts.
What do you actually get once the bonus fades? The $550-a-year Aspire is the heavy hitter: automatic Hilton Diamond status (top-tier elite), free breakfast, an annual free night, space-available upgrades, up to $400 a year in resort statement credits, up to $219 toward Clear+ membership and $200 in annual airline fee credits. It earns 14 points per dollar at Hilton properties and 7x on flights, car rentals and US dining.
The Surpass ($150 fee) and Business card ($195 fee) both include Hilton Gold status — which gets you breakfast and upgrades at most properties — plus quarterly Hilton statement credits ($200 and $240 a year respectively) and a route to Diamond if you put $40,000 on the card in a calendar year. The Surpass also earns 6x at US supermarkets, restaurants and gas stations, making it a decent everyday earner.
The base card is the curious one. It's free, has no foreign transaction fees (rare for a $0-fee card) and includes Hilton Silver status, but The Points Guy suggests its current 70,000-point offer isn't the best we've seen — unless you can squeeze real value from the free night, it may be worth waiting for a stronger deal.
One caveat that trips people up: American Express generally lets you earn a welcome bonus on any given card only once per lifetime. If you've held the Surpass before, that 130,000-point offer is off the table for you. And these offers, generous as they are, come with US credit requirements — they're aimed at American cardholders, so travellers elsewhere will need to look at their local Hilton co-brand options instead.
For US-based Hilton loyalists, the maths is straightforward: the Aspire's record offer plus its perk stack easily outweighs the $550 fee if you stay at Hilton properties even a few times a year. Casual guests should weigh the Surpass's low spend requirement against the Business card's bigger bonus — but only if you actually have a small business. — The Points Guy
