Holland America Line has finished a round of upgrades at RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, its private island in the Bahamas, and the timing is deliberate: the island turns 30 in 2027. Travellers can try out the refreshed destination on more than two dozen Caribbean itineraries running from October 2026 through April 2027.

The headline addition is a new exclusive Beach Club, which opens for bookings in early October. A day pass here isn't just a lounge chair — it bundles priority tendering from the ship, dedicated waiter service, all-inclusive drinks (alcoholic and not), beach accessories and specialty food. If you've ever queued for the first tender of the day to bag a good spot, that priority access alone might justify the price.

For everyone else, the island itself has had a refresh. A new food pavilion will serve a complimentary barbecue menu you won't find elsewhere in the line's portfolio, and existing bars and eateries are being renovated. Cabanas are getting upgrades, and the beach is adding more daybeds, canopy loungers built for two and extra chairs. The four pickleball courts introduced last season stick around, so you can work up a sweat between swims.

Holland America president Beth Bodensteiner framed the changes as building on what regulars already love about the island rather than reinventing it — which tracks with how the line has handled Half Moon Cay over the years. Long considered one of the better private islands in the Caribbean, it has generally avoided the waterpark-and-crowds approach some competitors have taken.

The timing also matters for anyone cruise-shopping this winter. Half Moon Cay features across Holland America's Caribbean season, so if a specific itinerary includes it, you're getting the updated version of the island — new food options, improved seating and the option to buy into the Beach Club experience. Day passes for exclusive cruise-line venues like this tend to sell out fast once onboard booking opens, so if priority tendering and waiter service sound appealing, book early rather than waiting until embarkation day.

For regulars, it's a familiar island with sharper edges smoothed off. For first-timers, the 2026–27 season is arguably the best window yet to see why Half Moon Cay has such a loyal following.
